Traveling over the holidays can bring a lot of tension into families with young children, and questions will be asked. How is the Easter Bunny or Santa Claus going to know where we are? And at Halloween, where can we go trick-or-treating? The candy and the costumes are very important to your tiniest travelers, and if your journey brings you to the white sand beaches of Siesta Key for a stay in our Rent Siesta Key retreats over the Halloween season, this guide to the best places to trick-or-treat in the area will ensure that all holiday tensions will be relieved.
Goblin Gathering at GT Bray Park, October 11, 5-8 PM in Bradenton
The best thing about these early events, at least according to your children, is that they give them the opportunity to wear their costumes more than once and to enjoy double the candy load (sorry parents), and this early occurring trick-or-treat adventure is our first foray into the begging world. The Goblin Gathering at GT Bray Park in Bradenton is a free event featuring candy, costume contests, and a bounce house which will help your tiny travelers burn off their candy induced energy.
Haunted Trails at Oscar Scherer State Park, October 18-19, 1843 South Tamiami Trail in Osprey
This next activity, Haunted Trails at Oscar Scherer State Park, involves a short but scenic road trip to the colorful town of Osprey, where they offer a children’s trick-or-treat trail that promises not to be too spooky for the littles. Also providing booths with games, activities, a Little Monster Manor funhouse, and of course, enough candy to ensure they will be wired for a few hours, (especially if they spend any time at the S’mores Station, which is our favorite part of the event) this trick-or-treat experience covers all of the holiday basics.
Nathan Benderson Park Trick-or-Treat on the Lake, October 29, 5:30-8 PM in Sarasota
Amping up the excitement another notch, our next adventure takes us to Nathan Benderson Park for Trick-or-Treat on the Lake. Offering a candy trail created by booths that also offer games, music, art, and a variety of other Halloween themed activities, their storytelling area is always a big hit with the littles. The event also offers a not-so-scary Halloween movie playing on the large screen, and the music will be performed live. This trick-or-treating event is free, but it will cost $10 per car for parking.
Safe Treats, Siesta Key Village, October 31, 3-6 PM in Siesta Key
It can be scary setting your children loose in an area that you don’t know, but the annual holiday tradition of safe treats in Siesta Key Village will absolutely ease the minds of worried parents. Local merchants will be providing candy for your precious ghouls, goblins, and princesses, signifying that they are participating in the event by hanging holiday balloons outside their door. The free Siesta Breeze trolley travels the entire loop, giving parents a break while allowing children to get their treats from all participating stores. Parents may also appreciate the opportunity to do a little window shopping while the kiddos are going about their very serious business!
Candy Carnival at Oasis Church, October 31, 6-8:30 PM, 5215 Lorraine Road in Bradenton
We’ve briefly mentioned all the excess energy your kiddos are going to exude when chowing down on all the sugary goodness found in their Halloween bags, and if you know, you know. Kids go wild on All Hallows Eve, something that the Candy Carnival at Oasis Church in Bradenton can help with. Offering trunk or treating for your costumed cuties, this fun festival also provides a variety of playground type of equipment to help them burn off some of the extra. A climbing wall, an inflatable obstacle course, inflatable slide, a toddler bounce house, even a bungie trampoline will be set up giving your kids the opportunity to run mild in safe environs, and if they fall asleep before you even get them to the car after, all the better!
