Siesta Key, separated from the mainland by little Sarasota Bay and Roberts Bay, is great for the entire family with loads of activities. Siesta Key beach has won best beach and best sand beach numerous years; most recently by the travel channel as best sand beach. The reason for these accolades is Siesta Key’s miles of 99% pure quartz sand which is pure white and incredibly soft. Take a walk along the beach to the entertainment center of the island. Siesta Key Village has numerous shops, boutiques, restaurants, cafés, bars, and clubs to visit. Big Olaf, the most popular ice cream parlor where a line of 30 plus ice cream lovers will line up every night during the summer months to satisfy their hot summer cravings.

The city of Sarasota has a very unique touch from the arts and music culture. Visit Downtown and see various modern and historic art pieces displayed throughout the city. The Van Wiesel Performing Arts Hall is also downtown where you can grab some tickets to a variety of shows and performances. The Shelby Botanical Garden is a great place to see rare and exotic plants and flowers from all over the world. You can also stimulate your taste buds and try one of their home brewed teas made from flowers right from their gardens. The Ringling Museum is another must see which showcases John Ringling's art collection of more than 150 pieces from all over the world. You can take a tour of the Ringling Mansion set on the waters of Sarasota Bay and its grand gardens. Tampa's Busch Gardens is only an hour drive and a great place for you and your kids to have a blast on their 7 heart pounding coasters. Or, if you prefer to get wet and wild, Tampa's Adventure Island is just across the street from Busch Gardens.

 

Transportation


Air: There are two major airports which serve the Sarasota area. Sarasota-Bradenton International Airport (SRQ) is located about 11 miles from Siesta Key and is the closest you can get by air. This local airport provides daily Non-Stop service from Delta, AirTran, US Airways, Air Canada, and Jet Blue. Car rentals are also available by baggage claim by National, Budget, Avis, Dollar, and Enterprise. The next major airport is located about 1 hours drive north of Sarasota; Tampa International (TPA). With service from all major airlines daily.
